WHO ARE YOU? Openfabric is a Landscape Architecture practice based in Rotterdam, specialized in contemporary urban landscape. Formed by Francesco Garofalo and Barbara Costantino together with Christiaan Harmse, ecologist Hielke Alsemgeest and CREM Sustainable Management, the team of ‘Diverse Networks’ has taken in consideration the many disciplines involved in the wide field of biodiversity.
WHAT IS YOUR VISION? The focus of Openfabric lies on the complex dynamics and interactions that are part of open public spaces. Through a multi-layered research on the city, Openfabric generates spaces where city, society and nature come together.
WHAT DO YOU CONSIDER YOUR BIGGEST ACHIEVEMENT? Gathering talented, interdisciplinary and international teams for all our projects is our greatest achievement.
WHAT CHALLENGES DOES THE WORLD OF ARCHITECTURE URBAN DESIGN & PLANNING AND/OR LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE FACE? Society and public space processes are accelerate by factors of transformation as the economic crisis, the climate change issue, and the immigration dynamics. The challenge of public space design is to give a reading of these processes and generate solutions that consider the rapid transformation of contemporary society.
WHAT WILL YOU DO IF YOU WIN THE GREEN ARCHITECTURE COMPETITION? If we win the Green Architecture Competition we’ll work to make ‘Diverse Networks’ becoming reality.
